Embedded within the hillside and oriented north to south, the Wilston Residence is carefully positioned to capture expansive city views while maintaining a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape. The siting of the home responds directly to its topography, allowing the architecture to sit comfortably within its natural context.
The design prioritises open-plan living across the steep site, with primary communal spaces arranged to maximise uninterrupted outlooks to the city. Passive design principles, including considered cross-ventilation and building orientation, underpin the project, supporting thermal comfort and reducing reliance on mechanical conditioning.

The steep terrain is leveraged to organise the dwelling across four levels, articulated through a restrained material palette of natural weatherboard and stone. A composition of warm, neutral tones and defined boxed forms establishes a clear architectural expression that balances solidity, lightness and function.
A central vertical circulation core connects all levels of the residence, providing clear spatial legibility from the ground-level garage through to the living spaces and private bedroom zones. This organisation supports long-term flexibility, allowing the home to adapt to changing family requirements while maintaining separation between public and private areas.
The four-storey residence accommodates five bedrooms, three ensuites, two additional bathrooms and two powder rooms, alongside a rumpus room and generous open-plan living areas. These spaces extend seamlessly to the front balcony and rear entertaining patio, complemented by ancillary spaces including a wine cellar, mud room, storage areas, internal courtyard, multiple living zones and a four-car garage.
The rear outdoor entertaining area, incorporating a swimming pool and landscaped surrounds, extends the internal living spaces into the site. The Wilston Residence is conceived as a cohesive architectural response to place, combining material clarity, spatial efficiency and passive design strategies to deliver a refined residential outcome.
